INGREDIENTS
- 4 tbsp. margarine
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 can mushrooms, sliced
- 1-1/2 lb. round steak
- 6 tbsp. shortening
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 OXO cube
- 4 tbsp. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tbsp. tomato paste
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp. thyme or dill seed
- 1 c. sour cream
DIRECTIONS
- Sauté onions and mushrooms in margarine; set aside.
- Cut meat in strips and shake in bag containing flour, salt and pepper. Brown meat in shortening.
- Add OXO cube dissolved in boiling water.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Add onion/mushroom mixture, bay leaf, thyme or dill seed.
- Cover and cook 1 hour on low heat.
- Before serving, stir in sour cream. Heat and serve on hot rice or noodles.
YIELD: Serves six.
