INGREDIENTS

  • 4 tbsp. margarine
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 can mushrooms, sliced
  • 1-1/2 lb. round steak
  • 6 tbsp. shortening
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 1 OXO cube
  • 4 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. thyme or dill seed
  • 1 c. sour cream

DIRECTIONS

  1. Sauté onions and mushrooms in margarine; set aside.
  2. Cut meat in strips and shake in bag containing flour, salt and pepper. Brown meat in shortening.
  3. Add OXO cube dissolved in boiling water.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Add onion/mushroom mixture, bay leaf, thyme or dill seed.
  5. Cover and cook 1 hour on low heat.
  6. Before serving, stir in sour cream. Heat and serve on hot rice or noodles.

YIELD: Serves six.
