INGREDIENTS

  • 1-3/4 c. flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp. milk

Filling:

  • 1-1/2 c. ground raisins
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice

DIRECTIONS

  1. Sift flour and baking soda together.
  2. Cream sugar and shortening; stir in unbeaten egg yolk and vanilla.
  3. Stir in 1/4 of flour mixture. Add milk, then remaining flour mixture.
  4. Set to chill while filling is made.
  5. Roll dough on floured board. Cut with floured cookie cutter, then cut star shape in 1/2 of rounds.
  6. Put 1 teaspoon of filling on plain rounds and top with star round. Press edges together.
  7. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F. for about 12 minutes.

Filling: Cook over low heat until thick. Cool.
