INGREDIENTS
- 1-1/2 c. all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. soda (to mix with hot water)
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. white sugar
- 3/4 c. brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 pkg. chocolate chips
- 2 c. rolled oats
- 1 tsp. vanilla
DIRECTIONS
- Cream sugar with shortening; add eggs.
- Add vanilla, then water/soda mixture.
- Sift together flour and salt; add rolled oats.
- Gradually add dry ingredients, chocolate chips and nuts to wet mixture until nicely blended, but don't mix too long.
- Drop from spoon onto greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for 10 to 12 minutes or until nicely browned.
- Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet onto paper towels or wax paper, prior to storing.
